NGS 2023 Family History Conference - The Virginia: Deep Roots of a Nation  (Other Genealogical Events)

The Kalamazoo Valley Genealogical Society is a member of the National Genealogical Society and is pleased to provide you with information on their upcoming national conference.
 
The National Genealogical Society Family History Conference is a premier annual event for family historians, professional genealogists, hobbyists, and history buffs. There are also special events planned for organizations: societies, libraries, archives, and museums. The conference typically takes place in a different US city each year in the month of May, with a new theme and a new program of lectures, sessions, workshops, luncheons, and events.
 
The upcoming NGS 2023 Family History Conference, Virginia: The Deep Roots of a Nation, will be held in Richmond, Virginia, 31 May–3 June 2023, and Online at Home 2-3 June 2023. Attendees can choose from dozens of new lectures for family history researchers at all levels by the nation’s premier genealogical speakers.

I wanted to let you know that we have opened registration for the oral history program.
 
 
People can also go to our events page and click on June to find the link.
 
As a reminder, the program will be held at the Paw Paw Library on Saturday, June 3 from 12pm – 3pm.
 
All participants will receive a one year membership to the Michigan Oral History Association.
 
Refreshments included.

On June 12, 2023, 65 years to the day, KVGS will celebrate its 65th Birthday at the Portage District Library, 300 Library Lane, Portage, Michigan! This is an in-person event.
 
Activities begin at 6 pm, with an enjoyable field trip from the library to Central Cemetery, for a demonstration of "Tombstone cleaning in Central Cemetery," with presenter Gary Swain. Central Cemetery is a short walking distance from the library. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Those who don't plan to participate in the field trip may remain at the library to enjoy the extra time catching up with old friends.
 
Afterward, we will return to the library for birthday cake, reminiscing, and a brief business meeting and program which will begin at about 7 pm.
 
In addition, we invite you to bring any genealogical material you no longer use - books, magazines, maps or charts, even file folders, and other types of supplies -  for a swap session. And, you may just find yourself the winner of a door prize - The Family Tree Cemetery Field Guide! 
 
Our 65th Anniversary won't be the same without you. Please join us!

2023 Barbara J. Brown Family History Seminar

Each summer, the Archives of Michigan and the Michigan Genealogical Council host a seminar to promote family history awareness and teach genealogy research skills. The Abrams Foundation generously supports the event in loving memory of Barbara J. Brown.
 
For this year’s event, we are pleased to offer this flagship annual gathering as a hybrid event. Participants can attend sessions either online or onsite. We are delighted to host Drew Smith, who will join us on-site here in Lansing and through Zoom to our virtual attendees.
